Required Homework: Reading: Students should complete 100 minutes of reading each week, and record their reading on the monthly calendar. Please turn in the April reading log the first week of May. I will send a remind text when it's due. If your child needs another one, please encourage them to ask ahead of time. Spelling: There is no mandatory homework requirement. However, if you would like to quiz your child on the spelling patterns we learn each week, please visitwww.spellingcity.com/rvala Choose a list, click games, then you can opt to "test me" to take a spelling test/quiz, or choose games. All of the patterns from the red, blue, and green list are the same, but the words become more difficult depending on the list. Red: easiest, blue: a little more difficult, green: Most difficult. If you are not sure which list to choose, have your child take a practice test on the blue list, and if they miss fewer than 6, the green list is best to work with. between 6-10, blue, and more than 10, red. Spelling lists are changed Friday afternoons. If you see a list two weeks in a row, it probably means it is a pattern we needed to spend 2 weeks on. Math: Students will be required to complete mid-chapter checkpoints, and a test review with each math chapter at home. Dates will vary, so parents will receive a Remind text when these assignments occur. These assignments are online, but I will have paper versions available for those unable to access the internet readily. Login instructions appear here: Go Math Instuctions. Fill in the state, district, and school. The username and password are BOTH the same. They are the child's student number, or "9 number," as many students refer to it. Extra Math Help (totally optional!) Visit Go Math! Thinkcentral and use your student number for name and password. You can use tools, games, and access the student workbook there. Parents, the student workbook has the same lessons the teacher uses daily. If your child is struggling with a concept, this is a great place to go! Simply open the student edition and search for the chapter and lesson we are currently working on (you can type the page at the top, or use the contents button to find the lesson example: 2.1 = chapter 2, lesson 1) It will take you step by step with your child - it will be beneficial for them to see the same lesson twice, especially if they are struggling. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like me to give you a tutorial, or give you exact guidance on the best practice pages for your student.
Optional Extension Projects: Parents or students who wish for more homework can either embark on creative projects together, or you are welcome to contact me for homework extensions. If you create something exciting, related to our curriculum, that you want to share with the class, please let me know ahead of time and we will arrange for a time to share.
