Our class has been studying the theme "communities across time" in reading and writing lately. How does a community change? What causes a community to change? Environment, weather, technology, people, growth - many factors. The last story we read, "Days of Digging," discussed the important work that archaeologists do. We also learned a bit about the ancient city of Pompeii, which everyone found quite fascinating. Students were able to summarize the main idea quite well - and that is that it's important to learn about our human past and respect those that lived before us. Today students became archaeologists for an hour and carefully dug with tools and brushes, and took field notes as they went. There was excitement in the air (and a lot of dust! :)
Here are the archaeologists! Some students think this would be a challenging, but rewarding job in their future.
