Quarter one is finished, and students received their first report cards. How did you do? We had a lot to be proud of. If you would like to find ways to improve even more, please ask Mrs. Vala! Or email [email protected] for some ideas.
Students just started using iPads in the classroom. We are excited to use iPads to study, create, and learn! I wrote a grant proposal to www.donorschoose.org asking for $2,000.00 worth of iPads, and Chevron fullfilled the request and now we have five new iPads in our classroom. We will be thanking Chevron by sending them photos of students learning with the iPads, and thank you cards. Watch for a permission slip that allows your student to be photographed for this purpose coming soon.
The Holladay Rotary Club just donated dictionaries to every student in third grade. We appreciate their generosity and will also be thanking them with cards. Students will use the dictionaries in class and take them home at the end of the school year.
On December 5th, Spring Lane will be singing holiday carols at Zion's bank in the evening. We will be asking parents to bring their children to participate. The kids will sing, eat treats, and Zion's bank will donate money to help with a spring field trip. Watch for more information to come home with your child later this month.
Please help our class win a party by collecting Box Tops and Labels for Education. Each month, the class with the most is rewarded. Since our class is so small in numbers, we need to work extra hard to synergize and get a win!
They can be turned in each month, by the last day of the month.
During the week of December 9th, our class, and entire school, will be participating in "Hour of Code" (www.csedweek.org) It's a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code" and show that anyone can learn the basics to be a maker, a creator, an innovator. We are excited about this opportunity!
Last quarter, nearly every student earned an invitation to our quarter's end homework party. Turning in all of your homework contracts will not only give you the practice you need to be successful and get good grades, but it will also get you an invitation to the next party at the end of quarter 2, mid January.
Great job to our Academic All Stars for October and November; Abdo and McKenzi, and do our Students of the Month for October and November, Lesly and Alexia. Way to go - thanks for being great leaders everyone!
Students are doing a fantastic job with learning multiplication and division. It is very important that they not only learn these facts, but that they are able to apply them to real life situations. While you are on the go or at home, create a word problem for your student that requires them to think about multiplication or division. The grocery store is a good example. "we want to have yogurt for breakfast three days this week, and there are 4 people in our family. How many do we need in all? 3 x 4 = 12!" "We baked 24 cookies and we want to deliver two plates of cookies to neighbors. How many will each neighbor get? 24 divided by 2 = 12!" The more they can apply these concepts to real life, the more they will realize how valuable it is to learn - not just for tests, but for everyday life!
