Students started using protractors today. They enjoyed it, but could have used triple the amount of time we had for math to get the practice they needed. Fortunately, there is a way for them to practice at home using Go Math Tools. If you have access to the internet, I highly encourage your child to spend 15-20 minutes measuring angles using this online tool. You can also turn it into a game. Ask them to estimate how many degrees the angle they create is before measuring it. See how close they get when they actually measure.
A VERY common mistake kids are making, is using the wrong scale (inner numbers vs. outer numbers.) If they use the wrong scale, ask them if they think their angle measurement seems reasonable? They should know the benchmarks of 180 and 90 degrees.
Steps to access online protractor:
1. https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/content/hsp/math/hspmath/na/common/itools_int_9780547584997_/index.html
(if the link doesn't work for some reason, have your student login to think central, click on "my library", then the yellow star called "iTools Intermediate.
2. Click on "geometry"
3. Click the drop down "activities" menu at the top and click "draw"
4. There are 3 tabs at the bottom left. Click the one with an image of a 90 degree angle.
If you are in the right place, you should see this:
